Aromatherapy
This method of healing has been around for about 7,000 years. Ancient Egyptions used fragrant oils for massage, bathing, and medicine.
Around the Eleventh Century A.D. European healers started using the potent oils for healing. These were introduced to Europe by crusaders returning from the East.
Known For their antiseptic properties, essential oils were burned during the time of the black plague in hopes of keeping the disease at bay.
When you stimulate the sense of smell you are releasing a natural "drug" for the brain. It is a proven fact that certain smells produce diffrent brainwaves. Have you ever been in an area and noticed a smell that was from a happy period in your life? How did that make you feel? Scents such as the following can help you in many diffrent ways:
Jasmine: Alertness
Lavender: Relaxation
Peppermint: Mental Stimulent
Tea Tree: Antiseptic
There are many diffrent types of oils that you can get. These are just a small sample of ones that I always keep around the house.
I do not reccomend making your own lotions unless you have a very good recipe. Some of these oils can be hard on the skin if not used right, and these oils are far too expensive to mess up!
See if you can find a licenced aromatherapist in your area. if you can't go to the library and check for recent books on this topic.
